Religios symbols in a modern Society (ZHdK)
In opposition to philosophical thesis of the 19th century religion has not disappeard entirely from the mordern, secular world. It is even very present and visible – and if we think about the minaretts religious symbols may transform into political contexts.
With ethnographic field research we look for visible religion and sacred symbols in the urban field of Zurich – this may be a crucifix in a taxi, a buddhist shrine in an thai restaurant or a muslim headscarf. We observe, probably interview and reflect about the intersubjective meanings and functions of the religious symbols.
